I am a Research Fellow at the Chair for Philosophy, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. My current project focuses on developing a theoretical framework for artificial adaptivity, the capacity of artificial systems to flexibly adjust behaviour in novel environments, with the overarching aim of grounding responsible research innovation and policy for “self-adaptive” AI. My doctoral research, completed within the interdisciplinary Research Training Group “Situated Cognition” at Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Osnabrück, examined “adaptivity” as a central concept in enactive and free-energy models of biological cognition. I am now extending this philosophical analysis to artificial systems, asking what adaptation genuinely requires, and what it means when machines do it.
My broader interests include the social conditions under which technologies are designed and deployed, and the ways contemporary technology reshapes social structures. In my free time, I like foraging for mushrooms.
